DAY 12: 2 Timothy 3:1-5

Day 12: 2 Timothy 3:1-5

What is the warning regarding in verse 1?

‘The last days’

Paul references a time period called ‘the last days’ in verse 1. People have had all sorts of thoughts on when this time might come about, you might even have something in mind as you read this!  This passage tells us that we are in the last days now. Paul warns about the last days (v1), then says to avoid ‘such people’ that were present then (v5). So, Paul knew he was in the last days.

We know that the last days started when Jesus was resurrected (see Acts 2:17 and Hebrews 1:2) and those days will end when He returns.  Because we live between Jesus’ resurrection and return, we are in ‘the  last days’.

What behaviours are warned about in verses 2-4?

These behaviours; when listed like they are, seem terrible. So, we assume we’ll be able to easily discern when behaviour fits into that category.  How does verse 5 challenge that assumption?

How can you stay on your guard to always be discerning people’s behaviours?

The command ‘have nothing to do with such people’ may seem harsh, and it’s certainly not the first thing we’d do. But when you consider the description in verses 1-4 you can see that there may be some cases where it is necessary.

Are there people you need to ‘have nothing to do with’ off the back of this passage?

Today’s Prayer Suggestion:

Spend time praying for the people in authority. Government,  leaders and rulers across the world - ask that they rule with  justice and mercy, and come to know Jesus above all.

Pray for Josh & Bethany Fraser (Cece and Freddy) in Slovenia as they continue to grow in their language skills and grow in their relationships for the sake of sharing Jesus with others.
