Presbyterian Church Of Australia Crest
There are up to 5 variations of the Crest
currently in general use throughout our
church.
These range from more rounded shapes with
only four stars and a burning bush on the
central shield, through to more elongated
Crests with five stars, a roman cross, a
burning bush, a rose, thistle and a
shamrock.
The
Meaning of the Symbols.
The
Latin Cross
is the universal symbol of the Christian
Faith, signifying that we are part of the
Holy Catholic Church
( World Wide Christian Church). It reminds
us of our Worldwide Fellowship with other
members of the
Body Of Christ.
The
St. Andrews Cross
indicates our historical association with
the Scottish Church, and pays tribute to the
pioneers who bought with them to this new
land the form of worship and government that
they knew and loved.
The
Rose, Thistle and Shamrock
are reminders that not all Presbyterian
pioneers came from Scotland, but from
England and Ireland as well.
The
Stars of the Southern Cross,
superimposed on the bush, show that we have
become an Independent Church in our own
right, seeking to make our own peculiar
contribution to the life of this Southern
continent.
The
Central Burning Bush
that dominates the Crest and the Latin words
tell of the reformed Church that came
successfully through all the fires of
persecution of four centuries of struggle
with unconquerable faith and declare the the
Church of God
can never be utterly destroyed, for it is
not human institution, but the creation of
God
Himself. |
